Definition of a sockpuppet:

"A sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception within an online community. In its earliest usage, a sockpuppet was a false identity through which a member of an Internet community speaks with or about himself or herself, pretending to be a different person, like a ventriloquist manipulating a hand puppet.

In current usage, the perception of the term has been extended beyond second identities of people who already post in a forum to include other uses of misleading online identities. For example, a NY Times article claims that "sock-puppeting" is defined as "the act of creating a fake online identity to praise, defend or create the illusion of support for one’s self, allies..."
~Wikipedia. It gets the job done.

It is EXTREMELY important that you do not create more than one account. You are limited to one account and one account only. As moderators, we can see your IP address. Everyone who uses the internet, has an IP address. It's unique for everyone. No two IP address are the same. Think of it as your internet phone number. The mods and admin can see your address (we can also check and see if you have the same IP address as someone else with an epic search feature 8D). If we see that two address are the same, we'll ban the second account and discuss your penalization depending on your actions.

If you have a family member that wants to join VO, please PM one of the mods so that we know that you're not sock-puppeting.

We're open to family members joining, but we need to know that it's a sibling. If we're not informed, we'll ban the second account. So please, let us know by PM. It's extremely important that you do let us know.

So just a little warning. =) Don't be a puppeteer!

Note: If you suspect someone of having a sock puppet or being a puppeteer, please please contact a moderator. We need your help too. <3

Ho ho, I saw this coming.

Someone coming off as a real person such as Kei.

Or just trying really hard to act like a vocaloid.

I hate it when people do that...

I was thinking of making one for the forum called twinkie house because they banned my friend from there for being a furry. I wanted to get revenge, but I decided not to at the last minute.

I am in the process of assimililating my cousins in Malaysia into Touhou, Vocaloid, and Utau, so if they do join, there's a chance they will be same IP. (Not same as my IP duh because they are halfway across the world), and plus I connect to VO anywhere I can too, so if I do visit my cousins in Malaysia some time in the future and I decide to come on VO, well....yeah

No, that's something different. This is more like "user A creates account B which is still user A but appears to be different, and may or may not try to back up user A on stuff."

That's fine. xD We'll know it's you and they're them. Especially since your IP address is always the same from what I've seen. =D You're good.

I have a feeling I'm going to confuse this with astroturfing, even though they are likely interchangeable, depending on the circumstances.
I'm just a traveling Vocaloid blogger. Remember that!

Astroturfing: A large party or organization promoting a political position under the guise of a small grassroots movement. (Astroturf is artificial grass)
